Benefits of Ultrasound Treatment
Benefits of Ultrasound Treatment:
Ultrasound uses acoustic energy at a high frequency. These continuous sound waves produces thermal effects. When tissues vibrate, this increases friction all the way down to the molecular level, causing the temperature of the targeted tissues to rise. This is a benefit of ultrasound over a traditional hot pack, which cannot penetrate into deeper musculature or joint tissues.
These thermal effects include: increased blood flow, a reduction of stiffness and spasm, an increase in flexibility of tendon and joint capsules, and decreased pain. Pulsed waves typically produce non-thermal effects. These effects include tissue regeneration, collagen synthesis, an increase in blood flow, and a reduction of edema, an excess of fluid which causes swelling and scar tissue reduction.
